Back and Spine Care-Back Pain Can Be Helped

Physiatry and physical and occupational therapy play an important role in the treatment of back and spine problems. In some cases, surgery can be prevented through a combination of treatments including therapy and pain management. And when surgery is needed physiatrists can oversee the post surgical rehabilitation needed for recovery.

Physicians trained in physical medicine and rehabilitation are called physiatrists. They help patients reduce or relieve pain and, as much as possible and restore function lost due to illness or injury. They work closely with orthopedic surgeons, neurologists, rheumatologists, primary care physicians and physical and occupational therapists.

Physiatrists use a combination of non-surgical treatments such as exercise, physical and occupational therapy, activity modification, adaptive equipment or assistive devices and orthotics.

Dr. Taylor’s treatment focus is on minimizing reliance on pain medication and emphasizing function with interventional procedures and rehabilitation.

If pain isn’t reduced with these activities, he also has an Interventional Pain Treatment Clinic where he treats a wide range of problems from sore shoulders or carpal tunnel syndrome to arthritis, osteoporosis, neck, spine and back problems.
